FASHION TOUR HITS ST DAVID’S


Calling all Cardiff fashionista's, its the St David's 2 shopping centre's 2nd birthday this weekend and Cardiff will be coming alive with fun filled fashion shows and events set to wet your appetite for a spot of shopping. There will be a series of fashion shows in The Hayes this weekend showcasing the best of AW 2011 collections from Cardiff's top retailers as well as a collection from students from the UNiversity of Glamorgan's fashion department. Shoppers can also expect pamper lounges, discount books and style pods. Cardiff is definitely the shopping destination of choice this weekend.

The exciting fashion tour event is the first of its kind to take place in Cardiff and has been organised in association with British Fashion Council.

The week-long programme of entertainment taking place from 10th - 16th October will include live, choreographed catwalk shows across two stages, both indoors in St David’s Way and on The Hayes.  Models, featuring looks put together by top industry stylists, will showcase the AW11 collections of clothing retailers including Reiss, Kurt Geiger, John Lewis, GAP, G star and Springfield as well as underwear brands including Leia and Calvin Klein Underwear.

Some of the latest names to arrive at St David’s, including international clothing label, MANGO, and lingerie brand Boux Avenue, will also be offering shoppers an exclusive preview of this season’s must-have items.

For the first time, childrenswear from Mothercare, Pumpkin Patch, Jojo Maman Bébé and Early Learning Centre will also be showcased, as children from Penarth performing arts school, Stagecoach will perform on the runway stage in St David’s Way.

To support the series of live shows across both custom-made catwalks, will be pamper lounges, put in place to showcase the products and services available from beauty brands including Cardiff city centre’s only exclusive Aveda salon, Kamigata. Product pods will also be located across St David’s, giving visitors a sneak peak at some of the best retailer collections for this Autumn/Winter.

In addition, St David’s has teamed up with University of Glamorgan’s fashion department to showcase work from some of the designers of the future.

Steven Madeley, centre director at St David’s, said: “This is by far the largest fashion event that St David’s has to date played host to, involving a larger number of retailers than ever before. We have built on the success of previous Fashion Weekenders, which were attended by visitors from all over Walesand further afield, and have worked to create a week-long programme of celebrations and interactive events.”

Visitors who attend the Fashion Tour will also be given an exclusive St David’s Cheque Book, containing offers including 10% off at Crew Clothing Co, 20% off at Crabtree & Evelyn, 20% off at Ollie & Nic and 10% off at Luke, as well as discounts from Yoo Moo, Spud u Like, Boof and Ed’s Easy Diner.

Mr Madeley continued: “The Fashion Tour will be an opportunity for shoppers to witness first-hand the incredibly wide range of brands on offer at St David’s. In turn, the Tour will allow us to demonstrate that St David’s remains at the cutting edge of latest fashion and that we are committed to providing our visitors with access to highly sought after retailers and exclusive offers and discounts.”

The live catwalk shows will take place between 11am – 4pm on both Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th October. Each show will last around 30 minutes and will be choreographed by show producer Vicki Jackson, who boasts experience in working with clients including Mercedes Benz and L’Oreal.

Outdoor stage, The Hayes:
Saturday 15th October: 12pm, 2pm, 4pm
Sunday 16th October: 12pm, 2pm, 4pm

Indoor stage, St David’s Way:
Saturday 15th October: 11am, 1pm, 3pm
Sunday 16th October: 1pm, 3pm

Details of the team behind the Fashion Weekender:

Vicki Jackson - Show Producer
 As an industry-established choreographer Vicki has worked extensively on our fashion and dance productions. Her credits include: choreography for Top of the Pops, Disney Club, MTV, Leo Sayer, Ronan Keating, Alexander O'Neil and Urban Cookie Collective.
 Her fashion and dance shows include work for corporate clients and leading brand names including Doctor Martens,  L'Oreal, Mercedes Benz, TOPSHOP, Dorothy Perkins and Bed Head.

JP - Stylist
JP began his fashion styling career creating the VIP room and styling service within leading high street brand Miss Selfridge. Whilst there, he worked with celebrities, press and everyday shoppers alike. He then launched this position throughout the whole brand. After this he started his own company working as a stylist, fashion buyer and consultant. This brings a real diversity to his work, ranging from designing image identities for new recording artists and presenting fashion events to shopping for a first date outfit or putting a  holiday wardrobe together.
