Frieze was personally invited by New Zealand Prime Minister Rt Hon John Key to contribute to the Westfield Style Pasifika International Designer Collection with the challenge of designing a garment using New Zealand Merino wool.

New Zealand prides itself as a leader in the woolen textile industry creating internationally sought after Merino that is whiter, stronger and longer than anywhere else in the world. The collection will showcase garments by leading fashion designers from each of the 19 nations participating in the Rugby World Cup.

“The International Designer Collection will be the only collection of its kind in the world,” says Show Producer and Creative Director Stan Wolfgramm. “It will be a symbol of global unity and national pride and we are thrilled to have Frieze’s involvement.”

Frieze’s ALL-IN-ONE menswear classic has been reworked for the catwalk with reference to “The Sport of Gentlemen”. A piece to be worn by the fashion conscious male both, on, and off the pitch, amalgamating the elements of the City with sportswear.

Frieze’s garment will also share the catwalk with garments by John Rocha (Ireland) and Yohji Yamamoto (Japan) amongst other international and New Zealand fashion designers.

The showcase will be held over two exclusive evenings between the Rugby World Cup semi- final and final games on Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 October at Vector Arena in Auckland.

Westfield Style Pasifika: Best of Pasifika NZ 2011, is one of only four flagship events to be supported by the New Zealand Government during the Rugby World Cup and will be a truly unique show that celebrates New Zealand’s place in the Pacific in spectacular style.

The addition of the International Designer Collection will ensure this year’s Westfield Style Pasifika is an absolute must see event for all international visitors to New Zealand.
The awards will be staged in front of thousands of international and VIP guests as well as aired on TV One at 10.30pm on Sunday 30 October.

Westfield Style Pasifika, now in its 17th year, is an iconic New Zealand event and the world’s largest indigenous fashion event. The awards within the event challenge designers to produce cutting edge fashion inspired by the unique and colourful fusion of Pasifika which is everything from this region of the world that makes us distinctive. The result is an explosion of fashion, art and culture, defining a uniquely New Zealand style.

Background on Elliot

Elliot J Frieze

Welsh born designer Elliott J. Frieze launched his eponymous debut Women's wear and Menswear Collection at London Fashion Week just last year with acclaimed model Jacquetta Wheeler and girl of the moment Amber Le Bon.

Gracing his catwalk last season, British Actress Anna Popplewell from the Chronicles of Narnia closed his show adorned in a couture tailored gown.
On the verge of his first decade in the Fashion Industry having dressed, in his words,  “some of the most beautiful girls in the world”, including Yasmin Le Bon, Lily Cole and Erin O’Connor, Elliott reflects his story from Countryside to City.

This season Elliott’s 20 Look Autumn Winter 2011/12 Collection presented at London Fashion Week continues to embody his natural Design ethos, celebrating British Tailoring entwined with modernity.  Alongside elegant drapery and an amalgamation of textures, Elliott continues to drive the boundaries of Classic Tailoring.
This season’s silhouette draws inspiration from the 1970’s, while embroidery and textiles pay homage to his favoured childhood author, Roald Dahl and illustrator Quentin Blake.
His Autumn/Winter palette combines caffeine mixtures represented by Latte, Mochas and Espresso.
His directional womenswear Collection focuses on draped jersey, tailored corduroy and Lambs wool Cocktail dresses.

For the fashion conscious male he presents a sophisticated, youthful collection of classic hybrid tailored cuts from the finest of Textiles from Yorkshire.
