Tom Ford to open first outlet in the UK

A look from Tom Ford's autumn/winter 2011 collection
Until now, if you wanted to get your hands on Tom Ford's glamorous and sophisticated designs - which are revered by its celebrity wearers and the fashion press worldwide - you'd have to book a plane to Milan and stock up there.

But, as of today, Ford has expanded into the UK with a boutique space in the mecca for all things luxury: Harrods. As well as Ford's ready-to-wear pieces, the boutique will stock bags, shoes and jewellery.
Marigay McKee, fashion and beauty director at Harrods, is obviously enthused to be exclusively stocking Ford's work: "The entire collection is stunning, having the ability to render living creatures momentarily breathless," she said.
"Tom Ford is a true visionary, the master of creating glamorous lust-after pieces which are effortlessly chic," added McKee.
Ford was welcomed back onto the womenswear scene with open arms in 2010 after a six-year hiatus. Since his departure from Italian house Gucci in 2004, he turned his hand to an eponymous beauty, fragrance and menswear line, also finding time for a directorial debut with the film A Single Man , which starred Julianne Moore and Colin Firth.
Dresses by Ford, who has chosen to present his spring/summer 2012 collection at London Fashion Week in September, can hit the £10,000-plus mark. But at least now we can just go and have a proper look …
