Oh hale, The Hour, the stunning new period drama to hit our screens, that allows us fashionistas to revel in and admire the exquisite 50's styling. The programme really whisks you back in time, plunging you into an era where women's clothing was lady-like and feminine, and tailored to embrace our womanly curves rather than hide them.
The wardrobe and costume department must be in heaven as they style leading lady Belle in an array of beautifully tailored figure-hugging, a-line shift dresses, helping to create the strong powerful image the actress needs to portray for her role as The Producer on The Hour. The styling really is inspirational as it reminds us of the 50's elegant and sophisticated clothing that allows women to dress sexy without actually revealing any flesh.
Although I do love modern quirky styles and trends, you cannot refuse to admit that the 50's fashion really was a decade where women's clothing really shone through and is an era that I think all women should embrace by investing in at least one pair of tailored trousers, skirts or dresses....after all it is on-trend this Autumn/Winter anyway....so that gives you the green light to hit the shops now.
Just to give you a head start, I have found a few high street must-haves in order to perfect that 50's style.
Topshop has a selection of a-line pencil skirts in an array of colours, offering a great deal of choice for the 50's fashionista as well as some lovely elegant tops and some cute ditzy 50's tea dresses and shift dresses.
Here are a few tops to pair with your a-line pencil skirt for the perfect 50's look
This is just a selection from Topshop but there is a whole selection of items creeping into the stores now so keep an eye out.
