Reporting the British greats in the Global Fashion Awards

A friend of mine gave me a tip off last week that the Global Fashion Award nominees had been announced, so as a dedicated follower of fashion, I decided to check out the shortlist to find out which designers and retail outlets are currently considered HOT in the world of fashion.

The humble high street retailer makes the grade!
Among major designers like Alexander Wang (up for most influential designer for accessories/footwear) and Marc Jacobs (up for most influential designer, womenswear) there are also a few surprises from the likes of high street retailer, H&M also up for a few awards. I don't know why but I expected all the awards to be going to top end designer labels but much to my surprise and delight they are not.
H&M are up for the Most Influential Design Team award following a number of collaborations with major designers like Karl Lagerfield, Jimmy Choo and Lanvin in the past, with the latest designer to come on board being the one and only Donatello Versace for their Autumn collection (which is pretty exciting). The retail giant is also up for the Global Brand or Retailer award along with the likes ASOS, Karen Millen, Reiss, Mango and Topshop (also up for the Most Influential Design Team award).

John Lewis is also up for Best-E-tailer for its online service.

Another big surprise for me is ASDA, who is up for Outstanding Fashion Collaboration for it's collaboration with Barbara Hulanicki on its George range of clothing, however most unusual of all is Coca-Cola and Karl Lagerfield up for the same award.

Flying the UK flag
Other nominees which might be of interest to you is ASOS up for best e-tailer, and as a regular shopper of ASOS since origination its amazing to see how far it has come in the last 10 years and how amazingly the website is doing on a global scale, with the online e-tailer branching into the USA and across Europe. The brand really is destined for world domination and it is certainly one to watch.

Harrods and Liberty are also flying the flag for the UK in the Outstanding Customer Experience category among the likes of my-wardrobe.com and Macy's. A few other British Entrants are from the new Miu Miu store on Bond Street for Outstanding New Store as well as a few of our fashion graduates which might be ones to look out for in the future - Asiima Mawudoku from London Metropolitan University, Estee Anna Lindley from the University of Central Lancashire and Yeashin Kim and Yingzhi Luo from the London College of Fashion.

Good luck to all the British designers and retailers next month.
